CALL FOR EDITOR

We’re excited to announce that CATA-ACAT is currently seeking an art therapist or art therapy student to fill the role of Editor for Envisage, our online magazine. Envisage is a fully online publication that features monthly articles, artwork, poetry, and reflections from art therapists across Canada and internationally throughout the year.

Starting out as a newsletter for the Canadian Art Therapy Association over twelve years ago, in Spring of 2020 Envisage took on the form of a triannual themed publication that broadened its scope to include work shared by art therapists and students in the community, and has continued evolving since then.

Now, Envisage is an ongoing blog publishing every month, with submissions call-outs happening twice a year.

What makes Envisage so important? Its position as a fully open-access online publication allows it to stand out from other publications and research journals in our field. The intention of Envisage is to provide a platform for art therapy students and art therapists to publish their work without the barriers that are often associated with peer-reviewed journals. It provides an accessible milieu that broadens the reach of our community and seeks to create an anti-oppressive, anti-colonial space where all forms of knowledge can be shared and embraced, where art therapists can connect and support one another, and where marginalized voices can be amplified in our field.

As Editor of Envisage, you will be responsible for accepting and reviewing submissions, corresponding with contributors, reviewers, other volunteers, and members of CATA to coordinate the publication of articles.

Responsibilities:

  • Approximately 8-10 hours of work per month.

  • Reviewing and reading article submissions to assess appropriateness for publication

  • Corresponding with contributors and reviewers to prepare articles for submission

  • Organizing an ongoing schedule for posting articles and submission call-outs

  • Formatting articles for publication on the CATA website, twice per month

  • Collaborating with CATA board and committee members and staff to share and promote articles on social media

  • Creating post images and texts to share on social media for each article and call-out event

Honorarium: $125 per month

Requirements

  • Be an active member of the art therapy community in Canada, whether as a student or practicing art therapist

  • Committed to anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-colonial approaches to knowledge sharing, research and publication

  • Familiar with Squarespace and Canva, or comfortable with learning and navigating technology

  • Proficient with proofreading, copywriting and citation practices

  • Organization and written communication skills are essential

The incoming editor will be co-editing with our current editor for the next round of submissions to learn the ropes and transition into the role. If you’re interested in the position or want to know more about it, please feel free to reach out to magazine@canadianartherapy.org before September 10.
