Embracing Play

Submission Deadline: January 15, 2026

This upcoming season of Envisage centres on the theme of play. It is about finding joy, whimsy, rhythm, colour, and celebration in our therapy practices, our lives, and our art.

As artists and mental health practitioners, we often hear the call for play in a world that feels increasingly heavy by the minute, and can find it challenging to know how to answer. Yet we also know the importance of engaging with our imagination, sinking ourselves into process over product, and nurturing play in adulthood.

How do we reclaim our playful spirit and childlike joy, or celebrate freedom and whimsy in times of despair, grief, and hopelessness? “Because if our movements don’t hold space for kinship—for being in community, for healing, for dancing, for feeling the drumbeat of something deeper—then what exactly are we building?” (Bradley, 2025)

This call for content invites reflections, research, book reviews, artwork, poetry, and other creative works that explore the theme of play in your art therapy practice, your learning and education as a student, or your personal journey. - How does play manifest in your work, both personal and professional? - How do you help others engage with play in their lives? - How can we use play as a method for inviting community, connection, and repair?
