Board Role Description
The Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA-ACAT) is a national professional association supporting art therapists in Canada. The association is led by a dedicated team of volunteer board directors. The CATA-ACAT board is a working and operational board which requires significant skills in remote collaboration, communications, and technology use. Due to the remote nature of the association, holding a chair position requires that directors are self-sufficient and motivated, driven towards collaborative success, planning and ability to track progress of their chair projects. Directors should be open to supporting other board positions and volunteer committees, as well as engaging in consistent communication with the board and CATA-ACAT contracted staff as required.
General CATA-ACAT Operations
Provides approximately 8-15 hours of support work per month to the association.
Coordinates their volunteer committees, reports back to the board at board meetings.
Reviews annual awards within their portfolio, NO LATER than two weeks before the AGM.
Supports the ongoing planning and implementation of the 2025-2028 Strategic Plan.
Is familiar with CATA-ACAT mission vision and values.
Is familiar with the CATA-ACAT Standards of practice, Education Standards, by-laws and association policies and procedures.
Becomes familiar with ongoing projects within their portfolio, connects with and follows up with stakeholders regarding progress and needs.
Technology Requirements
Must be familiar with Google Workspace (gmail and google drive), Zoom.
Willingness to learn online platforms: Wild Apricot, Notion, 1Password, and Signal for daily operations of the association.
*Training and support is available via the Administrative Manager, and video recordings. Some chair positions will require deeper working knowledge, see role descriptions for more.
Reporting and Attendance
Submits Annual reports on time, as requested by the Administrative Manager.
Submits Monthly reports via meeting agendas before each monthly meeting.
Attends all board meetings.
Attends Annual Planning Work Retreat.
Attends Annual Conferences on behalf of the Association.
Tracks and maintains records of stipends for their committees and projects. Reports monthly to the Treasurer on funds spent and available.
Becomes familiar with work flows and due dates of the association.
CATA-ACAT Collaborative Working Board
Replies to all board communications promptly.
Participates in board discussions and decisions.
Participates in association projects, and collaborates with other board members as needed.
Promptly follows guidance and direction from the Administrative Manager.
Communicates effectively, clearly with other board members and membership.
